The Hunger Games but for sculptures 🔥 Las Fallas in Valencia might be Europe's wildest festival, and it happens every March. 📍 Las Fallas, Valencia, Spain Neighbourhoods spend most of the year building around 800 satirical monuments, some over 20 meters tall and costing €200k+. On the night of March 19 (la Cremà) they all burn. All except the ninot indultat: since 1934 the public has voted one figure out of the fire each year (plus one from the children's fallas), and every survivor lives in the Fallas Museum. UNESCO listed the whole festival in 2016. How to do it: 1. Next edition: March 1 to 19, 2027. La Cremà (when they burn everything) is the night of Friday March 19. 2. Go before the final night too: the daily 2pm mascletà in the town hall square is a gunpowder concert you feel in your ribs. Earplugs help. 3. Vote yourself: the Ninot Exhibition at the City of Arts and Sciences runs Feb to mid-March, entry about €4, and visitors can vote in person. 4. Book your stay months ahead (prices multiply for the final week), or stay along the metro and ride in. 5. Wear clothes you don't mind ruining: falling ash plus firehose spray is part of the last night.
