Wizard chess is real, it's just in Italy ♟️ One of the coolest festivals in Europe if you're planning a Veneto or Venice trip. 📍 Partita a Scacchi, Marostica, Veneto, Italy Every two years since 1954, this town stages a full chess game with 650 people in Renaissance costume, real horses as the knights, and moves called out in old Venetian. The legend: in 1454 two knights both wanted to marry the lord's daughter, duels were banned, so they played chess for her hand. The loser married her younger sister. How to do it: 1. The 2026 games run Sept 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 9pm. Tickets go through the official Partita a Scacchi site, and they're close to selling out. 2. Can't make a game year? The marble chessboard IS the town square, and the lower castle museum keeps the costumes and armour all year. 3. Walk the Carmini path up to the upper castle for the view down over the whole board. 4. Come late May instead and you get the cherry festival. Marostica's cherry was the first in Italy to earn IGP status. Send this video to the Mio app and it'll save Marostica straight onto your travel map. #Marostica #VeniceDayTrip #ItalyTravel #MedievalFestival #eurosummer
