would you swim under a bridge made of tree roots? 💙 🌳 The most famous living root bridge in the world, and the best reason to add Meghalaya to an India trip. 📍 Double Decker Root Bridge, Nongriat, Meghalaya, India Nongriat is a small Khasi village at the bottom of a valley below Sohra (Cherrapunji), one of the rainiest places on earth. There are around 100 bridges like this across 72 villages in Meghalaya, and in 2022 they went on UNESCO's tentative World Heritage list. Here are 4 tips for visiting: 1. Don't go on a Sunday. The village closes the bridge to visitors. 2. Start early from Tyrna, near Sohra. It's about 3,500 stone steps down to Nongriat, and the climb back up takes most people 2 to 3 hours. 3. Stay a night in a Nongriat homestay so you can walk on to Rainbow Falls in the morning. It's about 3 km past the bridge, with a turquoise pool at the bottom. 4. Bring cash. There's a small entry fee at the bridge and a separate one for cameras. Send this to whoever you'd do 3,500 steps with. #LivingRootBridge #Nongriat #MeghalayaTravel #NortheastIndia #indiatravel
