How far would you get painting your town's name on a giant rock before the neighbours turn up? One of the most unusual day trips from Medellín, Colombia. 📍 Piedra del Peñol, Guatapé, Antioquia, Colombia A giant granite rock rising out of a reservoir. The valley was flooded in 1978 for a dam, so the islands you see from the top used to be hilltops, and a cross in the water marks where the old town's church stood. Here are 3 tips on how to visit: 1. Go early or on a weekday, the staircase is a single narrow climb and it gets crowded. 2. Spend time in Guatapé town afterwards, the houses have painted relief panels along the bottom of every wall. 3. Check the climb is open before you go, it has closed after rockfalls. Send this video to the Mio app and it'll save Piedra del Peñol straight onto your travel map. #GuatapeColombia #PiedraDelPenol #MedellinTravel #ColombiaTravel #colombiathingstodo
