I literally used to pray for times like these. The CXOXO Renaissance is here with the best song from the album rapidly rising in streams and I predict another song is going to follow it shortly. So last week, an article by the Fader about CXOXO deserving a second chance went pretty viral and something I really like that this article highlighted is the fact that at the time, Camila got so much hate for having certain influences of other artists on this project, which is a normal thing that artists do. But now artists like Adela and Slayyyter, who I absolutely love and are doing amazing, get praised for having the influence of early 2010s pop girls on their music. Miserable people were just searching for a reason to hate on this album. Like people were trying to say that Camila was copying Brat by Charli XCX, which came out like two weeks before CXOXO. Do you think that Camila got some sort of advanced copy of Brat and went to the studio was like, I wanna make an album just like this? And it wasn't giving Brat at all. The problem is that people didn't even give it a listen. They would just see these viral hate posts and assume that they were accurate. I'm getting heated again, thinking back to this time. But now at least people are waking up and realizing how good of an album this truly is. Spotify is reporting that CXOXO saw a 475% increase in global streams after the Fader published this article. Boat also spiked 70% in streams in the US and I honestly think Boat is the best song on this album because it really feels like the glue to this project. The way Camila was able to give us this heartbreaking ballad, but still incorporate the Miami party vibe with the Pitbull sample was absolutely genius. It almost feels like you're at a party but having like a sad moment with your girls in the bathroom. Which brings me to my next point. CXOXO had one of the strongest concepts for a pop album in 2024. Despite people who didn't listen to the album saying that it was Camila trying to be someone she's not, it was her most authentic body of work yet and inspired by the blend of genres she hears in her hometown of Miami. And the visuals were so good, they went along so well with that concept. I'm just glad people are finally giving it a chance and are understanding how good of a song Boat is especially. And I really think that if another song were to take off in the future, it would be Dade County Dreaming. It starts off with this high energy Miami race car sort of feel and then goes into the City Girls rapping over a piano, followed by Camila's angelic high notes at the end. This album really is my pop bible, honestly. Like there are no skips for me. I love it. I love it. I love it.
