When I was a kid, I got into a big fight with my mom because she kept comparing me to this guy, let's call him Andrew. Andrew is taller than me, smarter than me, better at piano, and he also got into every college. For 10 years, I have lived in Andrew's shadow. Andrew, if you're watching this, I'm sorry. I know you're a nice guy, but I hate you. You don't understand how much I was compared to you because of you. We had this big science tournament of other schools, and I wasn't able to place, not even top 20 in any of my events. Meanwhile, Andrew not only placed top three in nine events, but he had so many medals and trophies, he couldn't even fit them on his neck. His mom had to come out and carry the medals and trophies with him. And after that, my mom said, Jason, why can't you be more like Andrew? Mom, why do you compare me to Andrew? And she says, because it's cause you're so lazy. Like, look at, look at all he's done. You just spend all your time watching basketball and playing video games. You need to be less lazy and more disciplined, just like Andrew. I said, Mom, you would not like it if I compared you to other parents, right? Like parents who are more successful than you. So why do you compare me to him? I felt really bad though, 'cause I could tell it hurt my mom. So I said, look, Mom, I'm sorry for what I said, but you don't, but you don't think I want, you don't think I want to be on stage with trophies and medals? Of course I do, but I didn't. I didn't compare me to Andrew. Comparing me to Andrew, it makes me feel like I'm not good enough. And the worst thing is, I tried my best, not good enough. And my mom actually apologized. She just said, it's different. Me, okay? Like, you need to do better. Know to work on yourself. Stop being lazy. But at that point, I knew I knew I messed up. So I just stayed quiet. Said, okay, sure. And actually, since that fight, she has not much to him or anybody in general. So I guess it worked. But was I was that parent, what makes, what makes you want to compare your kid to other kids? Why do you do that?
