Sorry to burst your neoprene bubble, but walking in a weighted vest isn't a game changer or building bone density. Weight training and high-intensity cardio are both more effective at burning calories and building new bone tissue. And adding a vest to such workouts hasn't been shown a significant difference. The ergonomic design of these vests actually makes them less effective at increasing calorie burn when you're, say, out on a stroll or walking your dog. Although, repeatedly walking up steep hills will deliver more benefits. Jogging in a weighted vest can also burn more calories than flat walking, so long as your vest is heavy enough. Probably only experienced runners should attempt this. However, running in one may increase your risk of injury. Maybe the best thing about weighted vests is that they're kind of fun to wear. And if they help motivate you to move more, that can be enough of a reason to use one—with realistic expectations.
