A customer walked into my shop with an iPhone and told me he needed it working again as quickly as possible. Then he casually admitted the phone wasn't actually his. He worked at a hotel and according to him, this iPhone behind in a room almost 6 months earlier in lost and found, but nobody ever came back for it. His manager supposedly told him they were clearing lost items, so he took the iPhone home. The problem was that the phone needed repairs before he could use it, and he didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars for free. He brought it to me and basically said, if you can save it cheaply, I'll keep it. If not, throw it away. That immediately created a weird situation because technically someone paid a lot of money for this phone. The original owner might still think it was permanently lost, but I agreed to after spending a long time repairing the phone and getting everything back together, I finally powered it on and tested it. It worked. The cameras, the display looked good, and the phone was usable again. The customer was obviously excited because he had already decided the phone belonged to him. Now imagine losing your iPhone in a hotel, 6 months later, that an employee repaired it and started using it.
