full things that went down in education this week that I think are worth talking about. I'm Ellie, I'm a teacher who reads all the education news and sums up what's worth knowing on the internet so you don't have to keep up with it yourself. So let's get into it. One, teachers were getting a pay rise but it's not what you think. From September, we're getting a 3.5% pay rise. Yay! However, boo because schools will need to find the first 1% of the pay rise in both years. So what will this mean for school budget? Where's it coming from? And is 3.5% enough? Two, Ofsted is changing again. From September, Ofsted inspectors will be looking more at how schools support people with barriers to learning and also they are going to be looking at schools implementing their mobile phone policies. Is this good or bad? I don't know. Three, a new Prime Minister wants to change how GCSes work. He wants to combine academic subjects with more practical things like manufacturing and AI in addition to core academic learning under reforms outlined by Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
