Night at the Museum, but in Japan 🎃 This is the most unusual place to stay in Japan, an island of art museums in the Seto Inland Sea between Okayama and Takamatsu. 📍 Benesse House, Naoshima, Kagawa, Japan Since the late 80s a publishing billionaire has been turning Naoshima into a contemporary art island, with the museums built underground so they don't get in the way of the island. The main museum is also a hotel, and guests get the galleries after everyone else has gone home. How to do it: 1. Book the Museum building (or Oval). Those guests get the galleries all night. Park and Beach guests get until 11pm 2. Ferry from Uno on the Okayama side (short), or about an hour from Takamatsu. Rent a bike at the port 3. The Chichu Art Museum needs a timed ticket, book it online before you go 4. Go on a bright day. The Monet room is lit by the sky, so grey weather means grey Monets 5.
