3 things i bet you didnt know about working in Corporate America. Still worth it?? #corporatelife #corporatetiktok #corporateamerica #workfromoffice #workinginfinance 1. No 9-5s You'll probably never work a 9-5. Every job I've ever had or seen in Corporate America has either been an 8-6 or if you're lucky, an 8-5. Or if you're lucky, an 8-5. This is because the company wants you to work 8 hours, but they don't want to pay for your lunch break. So that means you have to be in the office for at least 9 hours. 2. You might owe money if you quit If you quit, you might end up owing your company money. If you accept a relocation or signing bonus, there might be strings attached that say if you leave before a certain period of time has passed, you have to pay the entire bonus back. I had a coworker at JPMorgan who decided to take a relocation bonus to move to Houston but ended up quitting in his first year to move back to Ohio and had to pay the entire bonus back. 3. You pay for parking If you work downtown, you'll probably have to pay for your own parking. When I worked at both Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, parking was not provided for anyone, even the managing directors. I ended up paying between $7 and $12 a day for parking and that adds up really fast. And as an added bonus, if you work in financial services, your company will have the right to tell you what stocks you're allowed to buy and sell and what brokers you use. No Robinhood for sure. What they pay you well and that's why they call it Golden handcuffs. Is it worth it?
