The Ultimate 2016 Makeup Breakdown Part 1: Base

I was a college freshman in 2016 and I basically majored in 2016 makeup. So let me show you guys how it's done and share with you some of the most iconic products of the time. Put the hydrating primer down to get that poreless canvas, we need a smoothing primer which at the time would have been benefits professional or Smashbox's photo finish primer. Once we've erased all skin texture, we can move on to foundation which needs to be matte and full coverage like SDler's double wear or Urban Decay's all-night foundation. In college, I used the Cap V deodorant foundation, which was so full coverage, it could cover tattoos. And if you wanted even more coverage, you can mix in cover of X's custom cover drops, which are basically like pure pigment. In 2016, the only way to conceal your dark circles was to draw some triangles under your eyes with a one concealer. I don't think there was a single influencer at that time that was not using the NARS creamy concealer. I'm blending that out with a makeup sponge, which you might know as a beauty blender today. When beauty blender, the brand first released these, they were so revolutionary that the name just stuck. Now we need to add some dimension to the face so it's time for contour. No matter what your face shape is, you're contouring with the three head, cheekbone, jaw line. Benefited, Wolverine bronzer was and still is a cult favorite. But if you are really about that contour life, contour palettes like the Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit or the Capmon D-Shade and Light palette were the way to go. We must be in the kitchen now because after lightly setting my face with some loose powder, it's time to bake. To this day, the Lor's Merce translucent setting powder is like the most famous loose powder out there. But for the throwback, I also have to mention the Colette Airspun and the Benni Banana powders. While that's baking, I'm toning my nose in two straight lines down because 2016 is before I realized I was Asian and I had to contour for my own features. It's time to brush that excess powder off because I can't stand the feeling of it on my face anymore and also it's time for blush. Some people say we didn't use blush back then, but those people are wrong. Blush is like NARS orgasm and the Tara Amazonian clay blushes were still used. They just weren't the focus of the base makeup. It's hard to be the focus when you're competing with a blending shimmer highlighter. Jacqueline Hill was at her peak in this era and people were going crazy for her champagne pop highlighter with Becca Cosmetics. And if you owned Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit, you probably had a glow kit too.
