This thing can require a huge hear me out, but a lot of people suck at makeup for the same reason that I suck at cooking. Now, please hear me out. I've never really been into cooking. I spent most of my life focused on academics and I'm pretty used to just making really simple meals for myself. And I'll see videos of people making these really cool dishes and think, oh my gosh, I want to do that too. The thing is, even after buying all the same ingredients and following the steps, my final product never turns out the way that I wanted to. And I couldn't figure out why until I cooked in front of my boyfriend for the first time and he said, it's obvious when you cook that you're focused on the final product and not the actual process. And it's also very obvious that you are not enjoying yourself. And I still didn't really get it until I compared it to something that I do enjoy and am good at, which is makeup. It made me understand the difference between just doing a step to do it and get closer to the final look versus putting as much time and effort as I need to make it turn out exactly how I want it. And for the most part, that doesn't really matter when you're doing your everyday makeup, the same way that I can cook a simple meal for myself just fine. But people will see a glamorous, elaborate makeup look on Pinterest or TikTok and think, wow, I want that on my face. And as long as I have the products and follow the steps, I can do it. But what they might not realize is they might have to do the look 10 times before they get it right, or they might have to spend 30 minutes on just one step. They might also have to accept that no matter how hard they try, their version isn't going to exactly replicate the reference photo. And most importantly, actually enjoying the process has the biggest effect on how the final look turns out.
