guys I finally have my own OpenClaw or as I call it bunny claw there are a lot of installation tutorials online but before you set anything up I wanted to share my research with you around the different options of where you can set it up as well as the pros and cons and trade offs of each okay so if you were interested in deploying Open Claw here are most of your options as of February 2026 of course these are rapidly changing and always evolving you know there are even things like NanoBot or ZeroClaw coming out now so I would not be surprised if this changes in a few months but as of now let's break down the options in general you have a few options you can go for a cloud based solution or a dedicated local hardware or personal computer the account security strategies we can go into at a later date within cloud based you also have a few options you can go for a managed cloud for example a Kimi Claw or you can go for a virtual private server with a virtual private server though you also get network isolation you get full root access and now you can choose your own model however in addition to the model cost and the API cost you will also be paying a monthly cost for hosting the virtual private server so in comparison to the Kimi Claw where the entire cost is a model plus hosting all in one your virtual private server will incur two sets of costs one other thing to note is that for both of these cloud solutions your agent will be always on and always available now let's look into dedicated local hardware the two popular common solutions here now are Mac Minis and Raspberry Pi with Mac Minis they have high local AI performance you can even use an open source AI model locally so you don't have to pay for a model however it does have a high initial cost so you have to go and pay a couple hundred dollars for a Mac Mini a Raspberry Pi on the other hand is a lot cheaper it has lower power and lower cost however it is limited in performance Raspberry Pi can also be on 24/7 now these solutions all require you to do something new something extra however if you want to go the easiest route you can also try your personal computer within personal computer you also have a few options you can do a direct install you can do a Docker sandbox or a virtual machine the direct install is arguably the highest security risk one because assuming you have some personal and sensitive information on your computer already you wouldn't really want the bot to have access to everything the other one which is a little bit safer is the Docker sandbox here you give the bot folder level isolation and it has much more security protection than a direct install there are some downsides to this this is a bit harder to set up in the beginning also the bot will be more limited in what tools it has access to and then last but not least a virtual machine on your personal desktop which has the strongest local isolation but it will have high resource consumption and the setup is a lot harder with any of these personal computer options your agent is essentially only available when your computer is on and not sleeping so think about the energy consumption and your battery life as a tradeoff for the convenience but yeah these are your choices if you want to deploy your own Open Claw now and depending on your needs your patience your technical capability how much money you're willing to spend and what the use cases are you can choose what's best for you
