five things I don't do which have allowed me to build a seven figure portfolio in my thirties and save up for an early retirement. Hi, I'm Morgan and I talk a lot about money, not to brag, but because talking about money helps others, especially women, and personal finance knowledge is for everyone. So if you're into that, then go ahead and hit that follow button for more. First thing I don't do is leave all of my money in a regular checking account. I aim to just keep one to two months of expenses in here and put the rest of my cash into high yield savings or investment accounts. This is the only way to have your money working for you and is the only way to earn truly passive income. I earned over $4,000 in interest last year from my high yield savings accounts, so yeah, open one now. Secondly, I don't expect saving alone to make me rich. In 2026, I have a goal to invest over $100,000 into the stock market. Investing is the only way to grow your money in a meaningful way. I've also done this in my twenties and thirties is work extremely hard to increase my income. My first salary in 2011 was $40,000 and now for the last three years, I have made over $250,000. You need to increase along with reducing expenses to build wealth. Third, I don't carry any sort of credit card debt. I treat my credit card like a debit card and I grew up watching my parents budget and pay off their credit card bills every single month. So this is just normal to me and I am terrified of consumer debt. This thing is on autopay every single month. No credit card company is getting any interest from me. Fourth, while I am terrified of consumer debt, not all debt scares me. I have a mortgage at sub 3% and paying off the mortgage is not a priority for me. I am paying interest, yes, but the amount of money I would save by paying it off is less than the same amount of money would earn me in the stock market. So I am choosing not to pay off my mortgage early. And last but not least, I don't assume that my corporate job is stable forever. While I have no intentions of quitting my job anytime soon, in the age of AI and the never ending corporate greed, I am working to build personal alternative income streams that will help me earn an income with or without a corporate job.
