salary $184,000 My salary is $184,000. Here's how I budget my paycheck as a high earning 37-year-old in Houston, Texas who's just been laid off. This will be my last payday routine for a while. So give it a like and share it with a friend who can relate to the situation and let's go out and style. I'm paid twice per month. So today's gross pay was $7,183.59. I'm going to increase my 401k contribution to 80% to capture as much tax benefit and employer match as possible. So $5,747 when to my 401k and $142 to my Health Savings Account. After $58 for my health and dental insurance and $573 for taxes withheld, I'm left with a net pay of $664. Currently have $3,257 in my checking account, which combined with my paycheck is enough to get through this month. So I set aside $1,600 for half of my mortgage and $234 for half of my utilities that do this month. I have a goal to invest $100,000 this year, but since I've been laid off, all savings and investing has been paused. So $2,087 leftover. I am receiving a severance package. I have a six-month emergency fund and I am selling one of my houses, so I am very fortunate to not be stressed about money for the foreseeable future. Being laid off sucks and if this has happened to you, I'm so sorry. I'm sad this chapter of my life is closing. A new one is just beginning. So follow along to see what I do with my new found freedom.
