My base salary is $184,000 and it's payday, so here's how I budget my paycheck as a financially responsible 37-year-old based in Houston, Texas. I'm paid twice per month, so today's gross pay is $7,663. I max out my pre-tax contributions, so at the payroll level, I send $142 to my HSA and $920 to my 401k. I only pay $58 for my health insurance and dental insurance. It's just me and I'm on a high-deductible plan. I wish everyone's was this low. After an additional $1,629 is withheld for taxes, I'm left with a net pay of $4,914. My mortgage, that includes my property taxes and insurance, is just under $3,200. So the first thing I do is set aside the second half of this, which is about $1,600. Next, I set aside $200 for half of my remaining utilities: my water, electric, cell phone, and internet. I have a goal to invest $100,000 this year and I've already invested over $70,000, so with under 30k left, I transfer $1,250 to my Vanguard brokerage account. I am building up a small percentage of speculative investment, so I purchase $250 in Bitcoin. I transfer $855 to my sinking funds for annual expenses and any fun personal spending. This leaves about $759 for the next two weeks for groceries and any miscellaneous spending.
