If you are using Microsoft Copilot and you have your first custom agent, you are only utilizing about 10% of what Copilot has to offer. I am going to show you exactly how you can build an agent and a real life working example, so follow along. The first step is to open Microsoft Copilot, click into the agents panel and hit create. You can then give it a name and type in the description of what you want it to do. You can basically describe here exactly what you want the agent to do and then Copilot will put it all together for you and create the first draft. Now, once you are in the agent, you are going to hit configure and you are going to go into the knowledge sources. From here you are going to actually add in each individual knowledge source that you want to give your agent. So for example, in this situation, I am using this to be a customer agent that will help me with strategic decision making and planning. So I am going to upload all my customer interaction notes and data files and I am going to use those as knowledge sources. The knowledge sources are the most important part. So for example, with this agent, I am giving it 12 months of meeting notes so the agent knows just as much about the account as I do. Then what we are going to do is we are going to configure our system prompt. So usually I use an AI tool to help me with the system prompt. You can use Copilot, you can use whatever you want. Just describe what you are trying to do with the outcome you are trying to get from your agent and it will help you build a structured system prompt. So for this case, I deleted the one it auto generated and I created my own system prompt and pasted it in. It is important here to tell the agent who it is, what it is trying to do and how you want it to behave. It is also good to let your agent know to never hallucinate and never make up numbers if it doesn't know the answer. Next you are going to have additional features that you can add into your agent. For example, you can connect it to your Outlook, your Teams and your SharePoint. So if you wanted to have additional context, you can link those in. You can also toggle the ability to create PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets and have the ability to create images in your agent as well. So toggle those on if you want those features. Finally, it is time to test your agent out. So you can actually go into try it out and then you can type in a sample prompt to see how it operates. So you can see here I have already given it all my knowledge sources and now I am asking it to give me a 60 second brief on this specific account and act like I have never even seen this account in the last two months. Now what it is going to do is it is going to go through all my data files, all my last account meeting notes and it is going to structure everything together and give me an update using all of the context that we added into the agent. We can take this one step further and we can ask it to do data analysis and everything is going to be there. So it has all the numbers, it has all the contacts and it will actually be able to act like a data analyst. An analyst. Oh my god. So check it out.
