Listen guys, this should scare the hell out of you if it's true. If you use AI, they are going to require you to submit your ID and biometrics. And every chat that you log will go to surveillance companies, to the FBI, to the CIA, and Ice. That message is going viral right now with millions of views. Let's unpack what's really happening because the truth is actually more interesting than the panic. The first lie is all users, that's the claim. No, Anthropic is not flagging all accounts. It's only certain accounts that are getting flagged for this and some of the features. Most people will never see this prompt, ever. Second is your chats go to FBI and ICE. That's just false. They're not collecting your conversations. They're collecting your ID and a selfie with biometrics. And that data stays between you, the company, not sold, not used to train anything. Third is the Peter Thiel part. The vendor is called Persona. And Peter Thiel's fund did invest in Persona. That is true. But Persona is not Palantir. These are two different companies. Thiel doesn't run Persona. Now here's where it gets real. Because as you may be aware that your chats are available in court proceedings now. At least in the US. So does that mean that every chat is discoverable and it goes directly to the government? Last month, a US federal court ordered for 20 million chat logs to be submitted. Even chats that they thought that they had deleted. So yes, that part is real. A court can reach your AI conversations even if you think that they're deleted. But goes to the government? No. Those logs went to lawyers. It was a copyright lawsuit. It was de-identified. They didn't go to the FBI and they didn't go to ICE. And it's not every chat that you've ever sent. It's not automatic. And it's not surveillance. But here's the part that should stick with you. Your delete button doesn't matter. Their privacy promise doesn't matter. Once it lives on their servers, it is reachable. And this is exactly why I push for local only AI. When your AI runs locally, your chats never leave your machine. Your face never touches a third party. There's nothing to subpoena. There's nothing to leak. There's nothing to hand over. There's no server holding your life. Because the server is you. The future is not renting your identity to AI and your chats. The future of AI is running all of it locally and not handing it over to a cloud server. So is there potential for overreach? Yes.
