I saved over $40,000 for the down payment on my first home. And one of the biggest reasons I was able to do that was because I worked two jobs. When I was 23 years old, I decided I wanted to buy a house, but I wasn't making enough money at my 9 to 5. So I decided to start scouring the internet and look for part-time jobs. I went on LinkedIn because I knew you get paid a little higher even if it is part-time. And that's where I was able to find my second job on the weekends. And after the 9 to 5, in the evenings, I was only getting paid $15 an hour, but I was working both days on the weekend and any holidays that I could get off. I worked Christmas, Thanksgiving, because we also got time and a half from my part-time job. I was able to bring in an additional $1500 a month to put towards that savings. And that, in addition to my 9 to 5 where I was making $55,000 a year, helped me fast track my way towards buying my house. I sacrificed a lot while I was saving up for my house, but realistically, that period was very, very intentional with my spending and saving because I had a goal and I knew it was temporary. And after nine months of putting up with that schedule, I finally saved up enough to buy my first house. Managing two jobs was one of the hardest things I'd ever done, but looking back on it, not that I regret it. I'm grateful that I did it and I now have my house.
