what would happen if for the next 30 days you radically accepted yourself? you decided to grow out of love rather than shame? but how do you actually do that? because as you're beginning this practice, you'll probably find this internal internal conflict between that part of yourself that wants to use compassion and kindness and another part of yourself that's a little bit of a bitch, a critic. And this critic is a tough critic. And this is where internal family systems comes in. This is a therapeutic modality developed by Richard Schwartz. Instead of seeing your psyche as just one personality, it looks at different parts of yourself and sees that we're actually multifaceted paradoxical human beings who seeks to understand and seeks to help us understand how we can create balance and harmony. Step 1: become aware of your parts. I've noticed that some parts of myself are very attached to criticizing myself and in some ways have been effective in my life, but probably also held me back in a lot of ways. Step 2: approach the ugly with curiosity. With internal family systems, you can learn to approach those parts of yourself with compassion and curiosity. Notice that it's actually behind them. It's actually just quite afraid. Afraid of not changing, afraid of not growing, afraid of not being good enough. The inner critic itself has never experienced someone giving it curiosity and warmth and acceptance. Step 4: accept the spiral of growth. Sometimes, you know, you feel like you're taking a few steps back. But we accept those parts and unburden those protective parts of ourselves, like that inner critic, the more space we create for curiosity, inner love and acceptance. Step 5: unburden the protective parts. The more space we create for curiosity, inner love and acceptance within our inner system. I'd love to hear your own reflections of how you've found the journey so far as well. If you want to join our 30 day challenge, of course, follow along.
