Every Australian woman in the early 2000s owned a Review dress and a Metalicus top. Remember when Review and Metalicus were like one of like two of the biggest and most popular brands in Australian fashion? Early 2000s. I looked it up and Review was actually launched in 1985, the year I was born. And it was actually my first retail job. So when I started, I remember the head office there. I was doing fashion at RMIT and then I moved to marketing at Swinburne and I went through the head office which was in Collingwood around the corner from where actually where I have an office now on Gipps Street. And I remember I did work experience there for a day and then I actually applied for a retail job and I got a casual position at Highpoint, which is ages away from where I was. Did that for a while and then the Melbourne Central store opened up and I loved it. The team that I worked with was amazing. It was like the the funnest time. Then I met my best friend who worked at Armani Exchange and we all used to go out all the time. So like Seven and Boutique and Saratoga. I used to be hungover all the time. I'm pretty sure my manager and the team did not like that at all. But anyway, I was 19. And Review had like these cap sleeve, hook eye blouses. They always used to have heaps of blouses and they had the mannequins with like the very like super tiny waist and they were headless and they had the curls at the top. Like it was like these iron curls behind them. Very distinct and the Review logo was so distinct. And I remember also back in those days we used to get like heaps of like shoplifters. Like people would just like run in, grab half a rack at the front of the room and then just run out and we'd have to call the cops. Metalicus was the opposite. It was like super stretchy basics and you'd layer them all. Remember how big that brand was? And then both got acquired by PAS Group and then PAS Group went into voluntary administration and Metalicus ended up being sold to General Pants and I don't know if it's still operating today. And but I know that they closed all their their physical retail stores so it may just be online. And the Review went to Brand Collective and is still part of that group now and Brand Collective is one of Australia's biggest fashion groups operating today. How many of you shop from Review? How many of you love Metalicus? I had a girlfriend who worked in Metalicus for a while and I think I just remember visiting her on my lunch breaks between Melbourne Central, Review and Metalicus in the city. Drop a comment below if you remember these times, if you shop from those brands and if you still shop now.
