Tate McRae's Lollapalooza performance wasn't just a headlining set, this was a continuation of a story that she started a year ago at the VMAs and then the Met Gala. Tate introduced this statue concept at the VMAs last year when she played Medusa with her male dancers being statues that came to life. Truly a career highlight performance like the end when she was in the sand dancing to Sports Car, legendary. She continued this concept at the Met Gala this year when she wore this gorgeous gold dress for the fashion is art theme and she said that she wanted to look like a living gold statue. Her Lollapalooza performance was full of Greek mythology inspo that really brought these two concepts together from the VMAs, the Met Gala. Her set design was definitely giving Palais Brongniart in Paris and it's like she has this museum to house all of the statues from the VMAs last year. And then she ended the show by performing the VMAs version of Sports Car, which was such a nice surprise and dipping herself into gold, becoming this gold statue, which is a direct nod to what she was wearing at the Met Gala this year. Tate ending her Lolla set by dipping herself in gold. HELLO? Good creative direction brings fans into these worlds that artists create and this is exactly what Tate is doing and it shows how much thought was put into this. Like the concept began a year ago and is now all finally coming together. She just looked like such a star up there, like seeing the fireworks at the end of her set while she was posing as the gold statue was magical.
