The newest PR and marketing trend is…building a campaign around your negative reviews?!👀🤨 Let me explain⬇️ As a PR expert and agency founder, 2 viral campaigns have really caught my eye recently, and both started with the brands landing in hot water. 💋Huda Beauty released their brand new Easy Bake Pressed Powder last year, and people HATED it. But instead of ignoring the criticism and pushing the product, they reformulated and built a whole campaign around it. The campaign video was set up to show members of staff telling Huda that they didn’t like the formula and that they thought it was cakey, and ended with a reveal of the new and improved product. 🧳Similarly, Shay Mitchell’s brand Beis received a lot of criticism on one of their bags, with customers complaining that it was just way too heavy. So Shay sat down to react to the negative comments, and then launched an incredible promotional video - The Beis Weekender Bag Surgery. The visuals were amazing, showing Shay cutting up the old bag and creating something brand new. A pop-up launch followed, where customers could bring in their old bag and exchange it for the new version at a discounted price. What these campaigns show is that a bad review is not the end for your business’s reputation, as long as you handle it properly. Most of us wouldn’t expect brands to show up online highlighting criticism and negative reviews, but doing so shows accountability and a genuine care about their customers!
