If I lost everything and had to start now in tech sales tomorrow, this is exactly what I would do. This playbook helped me land my current role in under two weeks. There are a lot of small details that the majority of people overlook, but step number one, you are going to pick 10 companies and not random ones, only ones that are hiring on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is the only thing that matters. Target 250 plus employee companies, preferably like 500 plus, they are hiring for SDRs or BDRs right now. Step two, I am then going to feed the job description into ChatGPT. Prompt I would use is what skills or themes and or themes are important for this job, and then that is your script and that is what you are going to talk about on the interviews and in your email to the recruiter, which we will talk about here in a second. As for step number three, you are going to write a custom cold email to the hiring manager as well as the recruiter. ChatGPT can definitely help, but make sure you tweak the tone so it sounds like you. Make it punchy, confident, and send it at 7:42 AM the local time of the recruiter. And yes, be that specific. Be like some crazy time like in the morning, but also super specific so they can tell it wasn't like automated. Step number four, I would message and connect with SDRs or BDRs at the company that I am trying to work for. You are going to target reps that have been there for less than six months and I will tell you why. Their memory of the hiring process is very fresh because they went through it very recently. Ask what questions they got, what answers landed that they said, and what the vibe was like with each recruiter. That is insider information that 99% of candidates will never get and never ask for. Step number five, warm up. Use ChatGPT to simulate mock interviews. You can use the voice feature and have a role play as a hiring manager and absolutely grill you. Repeat it until it feels like reps and not anxiety. This is going to be much harder and tell it to be much harder than the actual hiring manager themselves. You do not need to be the best talker or have 10 years of tech sales experience. You just need a proven system that works, and this is mine and it has worked for dozens of my clients.
