My client Hazel is another victim of curly hair trauma and unfortunately got her hair non consensually relaxed. I've been trying so hard to make this video educational without being rude to the stylist who destroyed her hair, but I'm having a really hard time with that, so I'm just gonna give you the facts and then go from there. Hazel's mom booked her a curly cut, and when they got to the salon, they washed her hair, and then they put a relaxer in it, which they told her mom was just a treatment. And her mom, not being a hair stylist, decided to trust the professional who calls herself a curl specialist. Now, this is already a bad start, because why are you relaxing her hair and saying that it's a treatment? But it gets worse because once the relaxer was applied, they put her under a hooded dryer with heat blasting on her head for over three hours, and her head was burning. Three hours is already way too long for a relaxer to be sitting, especially one that they did not ask for. But three hours under heat is just. I actually cannot even wrap my head around that Anyway, she was then brought back to the shampoo bowl and washed, and then a different treatment was applied, and she was put back under the heat again, and they washed her again, cut her hair, and she left with wet hair. They didn't even bother to dry her hair after all of that. So now that we're caught up, Hazel's hair has been matting because her cuticle has so much damage per each hair strand that the strands cannot stay detangled. And on top of that, her porosity is so high from her cuticle being wide open, so she can't retain any moisture at all. So on top of the matting, because of the damage, We were able to finally get hydration and moisture into her hair and seal it all in but unfortunately this is a temporary solution because the damage to her cuticle was so bad it's also so dry. It's just awful. And unfortunately, the damage to her cuticle is permanent. there is no fixing it, there's only treating it. We did the works today to try to help it be more manageable for her at home, but I just feel so sad for her because this is a long journey that is just starting. And I have a million more educational things to say about this, so I'm gonna make a much longer video about it soon.

You can’t call yourself a curl specialist and curly hair educator and rely on relaxer and chemicals to be able to do a curly clients hair.
