I was not expecting my five year old client's mom to tell me that they recently brought her to a salon for a curly cut and then they were told by the curl specialist that she doesn't actually have curly hair. You can clearly see that she does have curly hair. And here's the thing. Yes, kids can grow out of their curls, but I personally don't think that she will. And that's not even the worst part about that. She walks into the salon with curly hair for curly cut. Then I don't understand where the judgement is coming from, because let's say she did grow out of her curls. That literally doesn't change anything about the fact that you can still give her a curly cut right now and you can still give her mom the education that she's seeking for how to take care of her kid hair. The main reason that her mom brought her to me, or even that last stylist, was more for guidance and product recommendations than the actual haircut anyways. Just because obviously her hair is very short. But if you don't start taking care of kids curls right away, you risk damaging them. So no matter if she loses her curls or not, her mom is doing the right thing by seeking education on how to do her hair and make sure that they don't continue to damage it. After feeling her hair, I really don't think she's gonna lose her curls. If anything, her hair will become wavy. When we detoxed her hair from the chlorine, her curls started to pop even more. And she did already have some sun damage just from being outside all the time, and mechanical damage from pulling her hair back tight. And even with all of that, every single piece of hair on her head was curly. So I don't know. Let me know what you think, but I personally think she's a curly girl. She also just has the sweetest face. I don't understand how any adult could try and make her feel bad about her hair. But anyways, this is how her hair came out today. I'm actually really excited to see where her hair takes us moving forward and to see if it stays curly or not.
