My client Devyn is the definition of a girl's girl and one of the sweetest kids ever. There was a little girl getting her hair colored across the hall and Devyn kept looking over there and basically ran out of my chair when we finished to go tell her how pretty she looks. She's only five and she did so good during this appointment. We did have a few tears during the cut. She's a bit tender headed but once we got over to the shampoo bowl, it was smooth from there on out, which I will say is usually the opposite. I feel like most kids don't mind the haircut part, but then they give me a hard time at the shampoo bowl. So this was a win in my book because the shampoo process is a lot longer than the haircut. Also, see how her hair refused to get wet before and now it's taking in the water? This is what we need. If your hair cannot get wet, you will not be able to hydrate or retain any moisture in your hair, no matter what porosity you think your hair is. All hair needs water and all hair needs to be able to get wet anyways. I feel like I go through these phases where I have back to back kids appointments and then I'll go through like a month with no little clients. And lately my schedule has been all adults, but this week I have A ton of kids coming in. Devyn also came in today all the way from Baltimore. Her and her mom road tripped up here, so that was like, so crazy to me. I have a bunch of adult clients who drive to me from New York, from Maine, all over. But to road trip with a five year old, that is pure dedication and I am so honored. Devyn had a very hard time not touching her hair while it was wet and while I was drying it, so we went for a more of a voluminous look over a super defined look just because I knew she'd be touching it anyways. and my girl was dancing, so I know she was loving it. She helped me fluff out her root with the pick, which was so cute. And I also think it's kinda pointless to try and fight the volume ever because volume is gorgeous, but especially with kids, they're gonna be touching and fluffing it anyways. So, yeah, just embrace it. Here's how it came out and we're obsessed with it.
